About Patrick Dow Computer Consulting & Web Design

My first contact with computers came about during the summer of 1986. I was 21 years old living in Boston with my uncle who worked for Digital Equipment Corp (DEC).

In the room I was occupying was a bed and a desk with a DEC PC on it. I mostly ignored it however one day my curiosity got the best of me and I turned it on. It didn't do much; the screen was black with green flashing text. I wasn't real impressed so I shut it off and never touched it again.

It must have left an impression on me though because I moved back to Portland Oregon and soon decided to purchase my own computer. It was pathetic by today's standards. It had a black screen with amber (orange) text, a keyboard, an 8086 CPU, a 5-1/4" floppy disk drive, DOS 3.2 and GW Basic. No mouse, no modem, no Windows, not even a hard drive.

After many struggles I learned to bond with the computer and together we wrote and executed all sorts of cool little programs. Some of my favorite programming involved transcribing guitar music into GW Basic code. I dazzled my friends and family with computer generated beeps, chirping out Van Halen's Eruption and other cool songs.

Well more than 20 years have passed and things have certainly changed since then. I've seen many versions of Windows and Microsoft's BASIC programming language. I can't tell you the number of computers I've touched since that first one, but there have been many.

Through the years I've dealt with a lot of technical situations and solved a lot of problems. I've used my skills in many environments and continue to rely on them with every challenge I face. I offer solutions for the challenges you face, I offer you my professional computer consulting services.
